Seeing sideways 10/12/09

Class discussion was interesting today. I thought we were going to present our projects today. The first TED.com video that we watched was interesting... except the giant flying media ball. I think that was rediculous. What I thought was wrong is the room with all those floating balls. Now, I enjoy art and I really like what he did there... but DAMMIT! Take a picture and let someone have the real fun of running around in that room. I want to know what would happen. Would all the balls bunch up and drip? Would they go bouncing and orbiting around eachother like atoms? It's like setting up a bunch of dominos in a long line and not letting anyone start the line. In my opinion, I think art is most beautiful when it is functional... even if it is just for the sake of having a little fun.

contribution to society

I don't know playinh dress up with my skeleton ic a positive contribution to society, though. I was just completely confused about this one.

seeing sideways open assignment

wow... there was so much freedom with this assignment. It was hard for me to decide what to do. I finally decided to play dress-up with my halloween skeleton. -I want to use a program to put text and stuff on the pictures.

cool commercial

Go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m56F4EKN9hg

The viewer actually has to use their imagination in order to see what the makers of the commercial wants them to see. I had to see it a couple times because I couldn't see all the faces the first time I saw it. There was a genius/geniuses that saw faces in everyday things. I wanted to share this with the class because it really comes into our category.

Seeing Sideways 10/5/09

Class was interesting today because there were not very many people that showed up. It felt a little more intimate because everybody was not trying to talk over eachother. I was able to follow a conversation. That is it! I am bringing my strobe lights to class next time... I never know when the lights are gonna go out. Damn... I shoudda took pictures when we had the lights out. That would have been cool. I was just worried about getting the light in my eyes. I know it probably wouldn't blind someone by just looking at the rocks but I didn't want to take any chances. I did catch a glimpse of the light scattering, on the first one... it was really cool. I just wish i would have thought about taking some pictures.
Anyway, I am racking my brain right now, trying to think about what I want to do for the next assignment... ANYTHING, huh? Wow... there is so much freedom, I don't know where to begin.

Breaking the Rules

My neighbor is a musician. We have been hanging out a lot more lately and I told him that I have been learning sound editing programs at school. Today, I brought my computer over and my drums. We have been practicing on a song. We wanted to record it on my computer, using Sound Forge. He has the equipment and I have the software. Well, there was a problem either with the microphone or the way I have my computer set up. I did some troubleshooting and we couldn't figure it out. I will have to ask investigate more about what the problem could be. But that was the first time I tried to record on my computer. We didn't get very far, I was only able to get a really rough recording with the internal microphone on my computer.

Here's another one... My boyfriend came home with a turn table that converts records into mp3's. He brought it home 2 days ago. He couldn't figure it out. He said: "Isn't this what you're in school for?" Well... he doesn't understand that I have not been educated on that particular program that came with the turn table. SO I had to spend a while just getting to know the program. We recorded some Grateful Dead and we had some problems getting the sound to come out of the speakers. I fixed that problem. Then I got a little bored because the program was soooooooo simple it was nothing compared to ProTools. Some of the words were different but he didn't know what I was doing and I was just messing around  -now that I had fixed the problem. He thought I was still trying to fix it. haha.
So I thought I was going to change the pitch and make it go faster to make him laugh... ended up that it was some kind of sound effect. Like a triangle or little symbold... haha ... in the middle of the song. The song was playing and then *ding* then the song resumed. It was not what I was expecting. It made me laugh cause I was cought off guard but he almost freaked because he thought the sound was something recorded off of the record. I got two laughs out of it.

Bliss time

There is an addicting game I am addicted to... it's called Whizz Words.
http://www.addictinggames.com/whizzwordz.html
When I play it, it is like a form of medication.
I concentrate on it and don't think about anything else. Sometimes I will break my concentration to look up at the tv every so often. I will be playing that game and hours will go by and I barely notice. By boyfriend hates when i play it because I am in my own little world and don't pay attention to anything else. It is my bliss time because I can forget about all my troubles. I have been playing it more lately because I am a little stressed out and discouraged with school right now. I probably should have been doing school work while I was playing that game but instead of getting frustrated and stressed out but my school work has suffered.
